Chaffinch
The chaffinch is a common bird to Britain and other western European countries. They are the
most numerous of the finch family and one of the most beautiful birds in Britain. The male
chaffinch has a crown of grey-blue, with a warm brown back and pinkish underparts. The bill
of the chaffinch is strong and stout, specially adapted to crack open seeds and nuts. Most
finches have strong stout bills. Chaffinches can often be seen outside of the breeding
season in large flocks (often with the males and females forming separate flocks). The
chaffinch is a small bird.
