Canary
The canary is one of the most popular cage birds. Having a length of 5.5 inches the canary
is yellow-green or brownish-green in colour. Hybrid varieties now exist, creating colour
variations among domesticated canaries. Some hybrids have crowns and have yellow, orange or
streaked plumage. Canaries were brought to Europe during the 16th Century from the Canary
Islands, Azores and Madeira, where they live in the wild. Canaries are sociable birds with a
beautiful song. The canary is especially flamboyant in song when it is in the sunshine.
