In the rare instances that polygamy occurs within a species of bird it is generally
advantageous to the species. For example, the crimson-crowned bishop bird has a
significantly higher percentage of females in relation to males. Reaching approximately 5
inches in length, these sparrow-like birds can be found in tropical and subtropical regions
of Africa.
