Antbird
There are 221 species of antbirds. With such a variety of species it is obvious that there
would be great variation between the different members. In general it can be said that
antbirds have short, rounded wings, short tails and slightly hooked bills. The plumage is
usually a dull colour, marked by patches of white and black. The majority of the antbird
species are quite small (the largest reaching 14 inches in length). Antbirds prefer the cover
of thickets and forests and are never found in open country. Antbirds are found on the
islands of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as on mainland Central and South America.
