Accentor
There are 12 species of small bird known as the accentor. In Europe the most common species
of accentor is the dunnock. The dunnock has dull plumage of grey and brown. They reach
approximately 6 inches in length and have sharp, pointed bills. Those dunnocks found in
Britain commonly nest in hawthorn hedges. These sparrow-like birds sing year round
and are rather shy, remaining close to the ground, under the cover of foliage. Accentors are
found throughout Asia and Europe.
