Trumpeter
The 3 species of trumpeter have long neck and legs. However, they reach only 28 inches in
length. The Trumpeter has a small head and short beak. The plumage is soft and loose like
that of an ostrich, perhaps suggesting a retained juvenile state. The plumage is
predominantly black. This bird is unsuccessful at flying and will choose to swim or run when
disturbed. Trumpeters are found in South America where they are tamed and eaten by the
people of the Amazon.
