Rail
There are many different species of rail. In general they can be characterized by their
short tails, long legs and moderately long, pointed beak. They prefer to stay on the ground,
and quickly hide in undergrowth when disturbed. The typical Rail found in Europe and Asia is
the Water Rail. It reaches 11 inches in length and has brown and black plumage. Other
species of rail can be found in Canada, the United States, South America, Madagascar, Africa,
Australia and New Guinea.
