When not on land, this water bird has incredible abilities at diving and swimming. With streamlined body and powerful, short legs, set well back on the body, this bird is truly at home in the water. The four species of loon have beautiful feather coats of black, white and grey. The cry of the loon is an eerie voice which can be heard echoing across still northern lakes.
