Megapode

Sorry, No Picture! Mallee fowl are commonly referred to as megapode. This turkey-like bird does not use its own body heat to incubate eggs. Rather, in reptilian fashion, mallee fowl use the heat of the sun or even volcanic steam as an incubator. They have speckled brown and grey plumage, with brighter colours appearing on the breast and neck of some species. Mallee fowl have long, full tail feathers and strong legs used to forage for insects and seeds. They are found in the Indo-Australian region.
