Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura)
Whether they live in Canada, or at the tip of South America, all Turkey
Vultures are the same
species. That means a male and female from any two areas could breed
together and produce
young that could survive.
These birds show us evolution at work. Since their population is so
widespread, four different
sub-species, or races, have evolved in four different geographical
regions. The birds are larger in
the north, and smaller in southern areas. The behaviour of the four
races also differs from one
area to another.
