Martial Eagle

The martial eagle is a large, crested eagle found in Africa. Of the African eagles the martial eagle is the largest of all. Martial eagles are characterized by long wings, having a wingspan of 8 ft, and dark plumage with white underparts. As a bird of prey it can be spotted gliding high above the tree line or over open grasslands, diving with great speed to capture an unsuspecting bird or some other small animal. The martial eagle population is in decline as this bird is rather shy and avoids inhabited areas. [BM] {FW}
