Harpy Eagle

The largest member of the eagle family is the harpy eagle. Broad wings, long, strong legs and a long tail characterize this eagle which can weigh 17 lbs. The stern look on the face is created by a sharply hooked beak and crown of feathers. The body plumage is black with white underparts. Harpy eagles live in dense forest and feed primarily on monkeys, sloth and other medium sized forest dwellers. Harpy eagles are found in South America. [BM] {FW}
