Everglade Kite
Everglade kites are members of the hawk family. They have grey plumage contrasted by white
on the base of the tail and edging the tail feathers. They live in wet swampy areas and feed
primarily on snails. This kite feeds early in the morning and in late afternoon when the
snails emerge from the water to feed on vegetation. The Everglade kite can be found in South
America, Central America and in greatly diminishing numbers in the southern United States.
