Ani

There are 4 species of this most unusual bird known as the ani. They are close relatives of the cuckoos. However, unlike cuckoos they build their own nests and care for their young. They are approximately 15 inches in length and have pure black plumage. Ani have long tails, like members of the cuckoo family, as well as square-ended wings. Ani live in fairly large flocks and congregate at night to retain heat. Ani can be found in southern United States and South America. [BM] {FW}
