Tody
The tody, a relative of the motmot, is a small and colourful bird. Ranging in length from
3.5 to 4 inches, the tody has plumage of brilliant green, yellowish-white belly and red
throat. The beak is long and narrow and the body is plump. Like the motmot, the bill of the
tody has a scissor-like edge, useful in crushing the hard bodies of insects. The five
species of tody are found in Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
