Kookaburra

The kookaburra, a member of the kingfisher family, although drab in colour, shares other physical characteristics common to this family. Like the kingfisher, the kookaburra has a stout body, short tail, and long, solid beak. This bird common to Australia is known as the 'laughing jackass' for its entertaining screams and wild chuckles. It is approximately 17 inches in length and has brown, white and black plumage.
