Bittern 2
Bitterns feed on insects, amphibians and small rodents, all plentiful within marshlands.
When the bittern is disturbed it raises its head vertically and
stretches out its neck and remains motionless. In this way the bittern is
camouflaged among the marsh weeds. It is such characteristics that have made the bittern a
highly successful bird covering a large geographical range.
