Woodcocks reach 13in and have brown and black mottled plumage. The bill of the woodcock is straight and the eyes are set well back on the head. The wings of the woodcock are fairly rounded and the body is compact. There are 2 species of woodcock, the American woodcock and the Eurasian woodcock. The American woodcock lives in the eastern region of North America, found no further north than the Great Lakes. [BM] {FW}
