Pharalope
There are 3 species of pharalope. These waders are characterized by their small size,
growing no larger than 10 inches in length, sharp, needle-like bill and red, grey or brown
plumage. Although they share characteristics with waders and are classified with them, this
bird does not search for food on the shore line but swims out on the open waters. Pharalope
even sleep on the open waters and are known to be blown great distances in gale wind
conditions. Pharalope can be found in northern parts of the world during the warm seasons.
However, they migrate south as the weather turns cold.
