Jacana
This long legged water bird walks across floating vegetation. Jacana can
be found where there is an abundance of flat leaved water plants. They lay their
tiny, glossy eggs in a nest of floating reeds or on a lily pad. It is believed that these
eggs are waterproof, as the nest often sinks below water level when the parent steps on it.
The 7 species of Jacana can be seen in Australia, India, Asia, Madagascar, Africa and
America.
