Avocet
The 4 species of avocet can easily be distinguished
by their long, upturned beaks. One species of avocet has black and white plumage, while the
other three have reddish brown plumage. The black and white avocet has received recognition
for its graceful flight. With legs held back and neck only slightly extended the wings move
in steady, rapid motion. These waders are found in Europe, America. Australia and New
Zealand.
