Owlet-nightjar
There are 7 species of owlet-nightjar. The owlet-nightjar is also commonly known as the moth
owl and fairy owl. This nocturnal bird shares physical similarities with owls as they have
rounded heads and short, weak beaks. Like owls, the owlet-nightjar, sits perched upright.
The various species range in size from 6 inches to 1 ft in length. They have dark brown
plumage with lighter underparts. Owlet-nightjars can be found in Australia, Tasmania and New
Guinea.
