Swift
The species of bird known as the swift, are renowned for their flying ability. Spending most
of its time in the air, the swift has a body specially adapted for flying . The wings are
long and narrow with the primary feathers, or flight feathers, covering most of the wing
area. When swifts do land they almost always land on a vertical object, such as the side of
a building or a drooping palm leaf. Swifts even build their nests on the vertical plane,
some species using saliva to adhere their eggs. There are 2 families of swifts. The first
are the created swifts, the second include the spinetail and the swiftlet. All have dark
plumage and astounding flying capabilities. The common swift is found in Europe, Asia and
North Africa.
