Toads
There are approximately 300 species within the toad family. They are characterized by their rotund bodies
and rough, warty skin. The pupils of the toad run a horizontal line. There are also large glands on either
side of the neck which secretes a poison. This poison is toxic to many predators causing inflamation of the
oral membranes, nausea and in some cases death. Male toads congregate by water in spring and summer, crooning
a tune to attract females.
