HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG True Frogs

There are some 560 species which belong to the true frog family. Only 21 of those species are found in North America. These 21 species belong to the family Ranidae. They are characterized by their horizontal pupils and their bony breastbone. In general they are large frogs with long legs and well webbed hind feet. These characteristics are advantageous for these carnivores as they spend a great deal of the time in the water or leaping about. [BM] {FW}
