Evolutionary History
It is difficult to trace the evolutionary history of the chordate family as these soft bodied animals have left few fossils.
It is believed that the successful early fish swam to shallow freshwater where there was relative safety for the
development of their eggs and larvae.
From fish evolved amphibians, from amphibians, reptiles and from reptiles, birds and mammals.
