Arthropods have economic value as they pollinate the flowers, aerate the soil, provide products such as honey and are an important food within the food chain. The value of arthropod pollination services in the U.S. alone are estimated at $4.5 billion/yr. The overall damage and losses caused by insects in the U.S. amount to only(!) $3.5 billion/yr.
