Mantid (Order Orthoptera Family Mantidae)

Mantids are primarily found in the tropics. They are characterized by long, slender bodies, with two forearms fitted with spines for grasping prey. These predators are large, generally reaching lengths over 1 inch. While waiting for prey they commonly raise their forelimbs off the grounding surface. This photograph features a dead lead mantid, found in Malaysia. MORE! [BM] {PF}
