(Order Odonata Suborder Anisoptera)
The immature stage of the dragonfly is called
a nymph. The wingless nymph lives in the water, using gills in the rectum to breathe and to aid in
locomotion. The nymph, in fact, moves by a form of jet propulsion, expelling water through the
anus. This photograph depicts one of the metamorphic stages of the dragonfly. MORE!
