Saddleback Moth (Order Lepeidoptera Family Limacodidae)

This caterpillar is found in the eastern and southern areas of North America and into South America. They habitat lowlands and temperate forests. As a mature moth they are a dull reddish brown colour. However, as caterpillars they are a deep purple-brown colour with saddle, edged with white. The Saddleback caterpillar has a pair of poisonous horn-like protrusions at either end of its body. [BM] {DC}
