Termite 2
(Order Isoptera)
Some species house their colonies in simple logs, while others build nest which
are 6 meters (20 feet) or higher. This large termite hill was photographed in Australia.
These nests house the colonies which are ordered hierarchically by
king, queens, workers, soldiers and alates. All termites feed on a substance called cellulose, which is
found in plants and in rotting wood.
