Spittlebug
The spittlebug is a jumping bug, ranging in size from 4 to 13 mm. It eats plants and shrubs and can
cause considerable damage to garden foliage. Easily detected, the spittlebug nymphs covers itself
in a mass of bubbles. This white liquid is secreted from the anus,
and as they feed upside down, the secretion covers the body of the nymph. When this fluid mixes with
the air the bubbles become long lasting. In this way the nymph is protected from predators and can
freely suck on plant juices.
