Tiger Beetle
(Order Coleoptera Family Cicindelidae)
There are approximately 130 species of Tiger Beetle in North America, ranging in size from 6 to
40mm. The Tiger Beetle is characterized by long, slender legs and long antennae. This mostly brown,
black or green insect has bright, colourful, sometimes iridescent colours. Living in sandy, sunlit
areas, the Tiger Beetle is a fast and active insect. These predators are equipped with strong jaws and
if one can manage to catch a Tiger Beetle, be careful, because they can bite!
