Scarab Beetle
(Order Coleoptera Family Scarabaeidae)
Scarab beetles are moderate-sized to large, characterized by a
heavy, oval body There are nearly 1300 species of scarab beetle in North
America alone, making this one of the largest families of beetles. The scarab beetle has received a
great deal of attention for the overwhelming damage done while in their larval and adult stages. Many
of the most common scarab beetles live in animal dung, some feeding on animal carcasses.
