Glowworm
(Order Coleoptera Family Phengodidae)
The female and larval stages of the uncommon glow-worm are luminescent, from which the name
glow-worm arises. The male glow-worm is black or brown sometimes having red or yellow markings.
The male glow-worm is a soft-bodied, flat insect which reaches a length between 10 and 30mm. The
female glow-worm resembles the larvae, however the female is equipped with compound eyes. Glow-
worms are found protected beneath objects and on foliage.
