Chafer
(Order Coleoptera Family Scarabaeidae)
Chafers are closely related to June beetles. They have elongated bodies which appear in various colours. The species
captured in this photograph, the tropical rose chafer, appears in shades of vibrant green. Chafers can be quite
destructive as they feed on pastures, lawns and crops. The tropical rose chafer feeds on the foliage and bloom of roses
and other plants. Rose chafer larvae may be poisonous when eaten by poultry.
