Burying Beetle (Order Coleoptera Family Silphidae)

The species of "Nicrophorus" are commonly known as Burying Beetles or Sexton Beetles. The Burying Beetle is characterized by its broad, oval, flattened body. They are black with red, yellow or orange markings. Real scavengers they burrow under dead animals or decaying vegetation. The Burying Beetle is also known to bury small dead animals or decaying flesh. They range in size from 1.5 to 35mm. [BM] {PF}
