Aquatic Beetle
(Order Coleoptera Family Hydrophiloidea)
Those
beetles which belong to the family Hydrophiloidea are mostly aquatic. Like most other beetles they
are characterized by tough, leathery front wings which fold over the hind wings in a straight line down
the back. The hind wings, which are used for flight, remain protected under the front wings. Aquatic
beetles are specially adapted for existence in their habitat although not all are good swimmers,
depending on vegetation to keep them above the surface.
