Millipede
Millipedes have 20 to 200 legs, ranging in total body length from 2 mm to 28 cm. Unlike centipedes
which have 1 leg/ body segment, millipedes have 2 legs/ segment. Centipedes are very fast, millipedes
in contrast move very slowly and are not well coordinated. Their legs are designed to move through
loose dirt and soft soil, not for scurrying in the open like centipedes. This photograph, taken in Costa
Rica, captures a rainforest millipede. MORE!
