Spinal Cord

The spinal cord is a major part of our nervous system. It begins at the base of the skull and extends to the first of the lumbar vertebra. The spinal cord helps connect the brain to the rest of the body. It is protected by the vertebral column which has an opening of about one centimeter, and is also protected by 3 layers of membranes called the spinal meninges and a special fluid called Cerebro- Spinal Fluid.
