A traditional means of gathering animals for food and supplies, the trap is any device used for catching animals on land or in water. Some traps set with bait, and when triggered by the animal, close down on the animal until the "trapper" comes to get it. Other traps are passive in that they lure the animal into a place from which they can not escape. [AM] {NR}
