Sports Medicine
This branch of medicine is concerned with the effects of
exercise on the
human body. Specifically, it is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and
prevention of
sports-related injuries. Though not yet recognized as a
medical specialty, in 1997 more than
5,000 physicians belonged to the
American College of Sports Medicine.
