Rowing Part 3
The actual sport has not changed
from the first boat
race, two thousand years ago, except for the boat.
Boats used to be made
wide for sturdiness and to allow
a greater amount of leverage of the oars. Today they
are
much thinner and have a glazy finish of plastic.
There is no need to make the boat wider for
leverage
because they use outriggers that make the oar's
swing point 20 to 30
centimetres over the water. MORE!
