porter, Jacques Balmat.
By 1870 all the principle Alpine
peaks had been scaled and climbers itching for further
challenge began to look elsewhere. Climbers turned
their attention to the Andes of South
America, the North
American Rockies, the Caucasus, Africa's peaks and
finally the
