points despite life
threatening dangers. In the 1880's
perhaps the first climb for pleasure can be attributed
to
a challenge set forth by Horace Benedict de Saussure,
a Genevese scientist. He promised a
financial reward to
the first person to climb Mount Blanc in France, the
tallest peak in
