In the year 1924 the
Olympic marathon
distance was set by the British Olympic
Committee. The marathon is 42,195m.
This rather odd standardization is on account of the
Olympic marathon that was run that year
from the
Windsor Castle to the royal box office in
the stadium at London. Other competitive
marathons of
significance are held in Boston, Rotterdam,
