Hockey is the only game that allows substitution while the game is in play. In fact, a player rarely stays on the ice longer than 2 minutes (except the goalie who guards the net for the entire game). Hockey is not only a fast paced game with constant substitution, it is also an aggressive sport. Because of this, there is a system of penalties.
