Gliding 2
The sport began in Germany about 1910, in the Rhšn Mountains but it
wasn't
until after
World War II that recreational gliding caught on. Gliders started
competiting
for distance,
altitude, and duration of flight in 1922. The first world championship was
held in Germany in
1937. Today, the FŽdŽration AŽronautique Internationale hosts bi-annual
