Trolling has the benefit of covering large areas in a short amount of time. This benefit coupled with the benefit of sonar equipment made available in the later half of the 20th Century has redefined fishing. Sonar has changed the face of big game fishing in the oceans and large lakes. The lines are heavy and the rods are generally 5 to 7 feet. Competitive fishing is very popular as a hobby sport.
