Points are scored to the team who's stones rest closest to the tee. The stones, which weigh between 40-44 pounds (18-19 kg) are thrown alternately by the two teams. A broom is used to sweep the path of the stone to remove snow and ice. The most popular curling event is the Canadian Championships which began in 1927.
